About Heyoppa

Heyoppa started from a simple frustration. Apps for meeting people from other countries were full of unsolicited messages, and the people who most wanted to practise a language were the ones who gave up first.

So we built the opposite. On Heyoppa nobody can message you until you have both said yes. That single rule is what makes the rest of the app work — the community screen, the language and nationality search, the direct requests — because everything downstream of it is an invitation rather than an intrusion.

What the app is for

Meeting Korean friends and international pen pals, practising Korean and other languages with people who actually speak them, and getting closer to Korean, Japanese and Chinese culture through conversation rather than a textbook.

How it stays free

Heyoppa is free to download and free to use. Diamonds — the in-app currency — buy optional shortcuts: a direct match request, a slot on the Discover tab, an in-chat translation. You can earn them for free from the chest, and you never need them to match or to chat.

Safety

Mutual matching does most of the work, and every profile can be reported from inside the app. We have a zero-tolerance policy against child sexual abuse and exploitation, set out in full in our Child Safety Policy.
