Frequently asked questions

Matching, swipes, diamonds, Stardust and VIP — the questions we are asked most.

I cannot talk to anyone!

To open a chat with someone you normally need a match — you both have to like each other.

Why do we do it this way? Because it is genuinely annoying when someone opens a chat only to spam it. Mutual matching means you never talk to people you did not choose to talk to.

To start matching, use the Community tab and swipe. If you would rather not wait, a super like skips the accept step and opens the conversation straight away — the other person does not need to accept it, and it cannot be taken back.

I have run out of swipes.

Free accounts get a set number of swipes in each 12-hour window. When you run out, you have four ways forward:

  • wait for the window to reset;
  • watch a short ad for more swipes;
  • raise your Star Level, which permanently adds swipes to every window;
  • go VIP, which removes the limit entirely.

The limit exists so the people you see are people who are actually active, rather than an endless deck nobody reads.

I cannot see who liked me!

Seeing the full list of people who liked you is a paid feature. You can unlock it either with VIP, which includes it for as long as your subscription runs, or with a time-limited pass bought with diamonds.

You do not need it to get a match. It only saves you the wait.

What are diamonds used for?

Diamonds are the currency of Heyoppa. You do not need them to match or to chat with a match.

What they buy is speed and reach:

  • Super likes — open a conversation without waiting for a mutual match.
  • Messaging someone you have not matched with.
  • Featured placement on the Discover tab, and boosting a post in the feed.
  • Gifts — roses, cakes and crowns on someone’s post.
  • Translation in the chatroom, and passes for who liked you and read receipts.

Please bear in mind that you do not need diamonds to use the app. They are there to help you make friends more quickly.

How do I get diamonds?

Two ways. You can buy a pack from the shop, or open the free chest, which pays out a random amount of diamonds for watching a short ad.

The chest can be opened several times a day up to a daily limit, so it is worth coming back rather than trying to farm it in one sitting.

What are Stardust and Star Levels?

Stardust is earned, never bought. You get it for taking part: answering the Question of the Day, posting to the feed, commenting and replying, opening the app on consecutive days to build a streak, and from other people liking or sending gifts on your posts.

Stardust raises your Star Level. Every level up to 10 gives you one extra swipe in each 12-hour window, permanently. Levels 11 to 20 are badges — a name and a colour other members see next to your posts and comments.

Each way of earning has its own daily cap, so a good day of taking part is worth more than a marathon.

What is VIP?

VIP is the optional subscription. It gives you:

  • unlimited swipes;
  • unlimited messages, to as many people as you want;
  • priority placement in the Community and feed tabs;
  • unlimited translation in chat;
  • read receipts, so you know when a message was seen;
  • the full list of people who liked you;
  • no ads, and a badge on your profile.

Everything VIP does can also be done without it — more slowly, or a piece at a time with diamonds.

How do I get more people to see me?

The Discover tab is where profiles get seen. It shows a featured carousel and a set of rails, ordered by how well people are actually doing rather than by who joined most recently.

You can buy a featured slot there for a fixed price — there are two tiers, and you know what you are paying before you pay it. This replaced the old open-ended bidding, where the real question was "what is the smallest unclaimed number", and where early bidders sat at the top permanently.

Free ways to be more visible: fill in your profile properly with real photos, take the personality test, post to the feed, and raise your Star Level.

What is the feed for?

The Home tab is a feed of posts from the community. You can post, comment, reply, follow people, bookmark posts and hashtags, and answer the Question of the Day.

It is the fastest free way to be noticed: posting and commenting earn Stardust, and people who like what you wrote tend to look at your profile next. If you want a post to reach further than that, you can boost it with diamonds.

What if we do not speak the same language?

You can translate messages inside the chatroom, without leaving the conversation. Translations are unlimited on VIP, and available with diamonds otherwise.

The app itself is available in English, Korean, Japanese, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Polish and Russian.

How can I report or block someone?

Use the report button on their profile or in the chat. We check reports as quickly as we can.

You can also block anyone. They go into your block list, and you can unblock them at any time from your settings.

For anything involving a minor, see our Child Safety Policy — we have a zero-tolerance position and we cooperate with law enforcement.

I want to delete my account.

Use the delete account button in your settings. Please keep in mind that all of your information is deleted and we will not be able to recover it.

Full detail is on our data retention and deletion page, including how to request deletion by email.

I did not receive my purchase.

Restart the app and open the shop again. If the payment completed, the diamonds or the subscription should arrive.

If they do not, email us with:

  • the amount of the purchase, or a screenshot of the receipt;
  • your name, country and the email address on your account;
  • the device and operating system you are using.

We will check and either credit the purchase or refund you within two business days.

Still stuck?

Write to us at [email protected] and we will get back to you within two business days. The support page explains what to include so we can help on the first reply.
